Rhys Hoskins to play left field for Phillies' Triple-A affiliate

Philadelphia Phillies prospect Rhys Hoskins will play left field with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday.

What It Means:

Hoskins has played exclusively at first base in the minors, but with Aaron Altherr (hamstring) on the disabled list, the Phillies want to see how the 24-year-old prospect fares in the outfield. This would allow them to fill a need in the majors without sacrificing any playing time for fellow right-handed hitting first baseman Tommy Joseph. If things go well over the next few days, Hoskins could be starting in left field for Philadelphia by the end of the week. He has smashed 65 home runs in 247 games over the past two seasons, so his bat could be worth adding in deeper fantasy formats.

In 122 games for the Triple-A IronPigs this season, Hoskins is slashing .280/.385/.570 with 27 home runs (IronPigs franchise record) and 84 RBI across 460 plate appearances (PA). He crushed 38 taters for Double-A Reading in 2016.
