Zack Cozart

Zack Cozart (quad) out of Reds' lineup again Wednesday

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Zack Cozart (quad) is absent from the starting lineup on Wednesday versus the New York Yankees.

What It Means:

Cozart was held out of the starting lineup on Tuesday due to a lingering left quad issue, but he entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning and wound up aggravating the injury while rounding the bases. The 32-year-old (in August) impending free agent may be looking at a stint on the disabled list, which would cripple his potential trade value. Jose Peraza will start at shortstop again and bat ninth for the Reds on Wednesday afternoon for a road date with right-hander Luis Severino and the Yankees.

Cozart is slashing .317/.402/.568 with 12 taters, 39 RBI, and 48 runs scored in 323 plate appearances (76 games) this season. numberFire's models project him for a .291 batting average with 7 homers, 26 RBI, and 28 runs scored in 199 plate appearances for the rest of the year.
