Mariners acquire Marco Gonzales from Cardinals
The Seattle Mariners acquired left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzales from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for outfielder Tyler O'Neill.
Gonzalez, a first-round selection of the Cardinals back in 2013, owns a 2.78 ERA over 74 1/3 minor league innings in his first season back from Tommy John surgery. The 25-year-old southpaw should eventually find his way towards the back of the Mariners' rotation. O'Neill, meanwhile, is unlikely to crack the Cardinals' big league roster this season, but he's an intriguing power-hitter who has 19 home runs for Triple-A Tacoma this season.
Gonzales' only full season in the majors was during his rookie campaign back in 2014, when he twirled a 4.15 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and 19.9 strikeout percentage across 34 2/3 innings for the Cardinals. He finished with a 4-2 record in 5 starts (10 appearances).
