J.D. Martinez (hand) out for Diamondbacks on Thursday

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder J.D. Martinez (hand) is not in Thursday's starting lineup versus the Cincinnati Reds.

What It Means:

Martinez was hit by a pitch on Wednesday in his first game with the Diamondbacks that caused a left hand contusion. He should be fine in a day or so after X-rays came back negative. Daniel Descalso is in left field, Gregor Blanco is in center, and Chris Herrmann is in right on Thursday afternoon in Cincinnati. Right-hander Luis Castillo is on the hill for the Reds.

Martinez is slashing .302/.385/.624 with 16 home runs, 39 RBI, and 38 runs scored in 234 plate appearances (58 games) this season.
