Victor Martinez placed on Tigers' DL with irregular heartbeat
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez (heart) has been placed on the 10-day DL.
What It Means:
Martinez was experiencing dizziness and a fast heart rate on Thursday and was admitted to a hospital overnight with an irregular heartbeat. He will be out of commission for a couple of weeks with Miguel Cabrera taking over as the primary DH and Alex Avila starting at first base, just as they are on Friday.
Before the heart issue arose, Martinez was hitting .261 with 5 home runs, and 29 RBI in 246 plate appearances.
