Brewers' Eric Sogard starting at shortstop on Thursday
The Milwaukee Brewers are starting infielder Eric Sogard at shortstop and batting him leadoff on Thursday against the San Francisco Giants.
What It Means:
Despite spending the first chunk of the season in Triple-A, Sogard has been the Brewers' best offensive middle infielder so far this year. He's not likely to keep uber-prospect Orlando Arcia off the field much (outside of rest days like today), but if Jonathan Villar continues to struggle, Sogard could keep earning regular playing time.
In 68 major league plate appearances this year, Sogard is slashing .396/.529/.623 with 2 home runs, 13 runs, 11 RBI, and 2 stolen bases. He's actually walked more times (14) than struck out (5) this year.
