Jeff Hoffman strikes out nine in Rockies' win over Padres
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jeff Hoffman struck out nine while allowing one run on just three hits over seven innings in Sunday's 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres.
Hoffman was filling in for the injured Tyler Anderson and once again put up a brilliant start. His only mistake was a homer allowed to Hunter Renfroe in the fifth inning, but other than that he was spot on. Hoffman only threw 89 pitches, so he might have been able to go even deeper into the game if needed.
Hoffman has a 2.61 ERA and 3.01 xFIP over 20.2 big league innings in 2017. His strikeout rate through four appearances is 33.8 percent.
