Tigers remove Justin Verlander (groin) from start as a precaution
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander was removed from Sunday's start against the Chicago White Sox for precautionary reasons due to a tight right groin.
Verlander was getting hit hard on Sunday, allowing six hits, three walks, and two runs in just two innings before being pulled. He didn't look at his best and complained of a tight groin, prompting the Tigers to take him out early. The team believes the injury is minor and Verlander should make his next start Saturday at the Boston Red Sox.
Verlander is posting a 4.63 ERA while walking a career-high 4.24 batters per nine innings and striking out 66 in 70 innings pitched this season.
