Phillies not demoting Maikel Franco or Odubel Herrera

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco and outfielder Odubel Herrera aren't at risk of being sent down, general manager Matt Klentak stated on Thursday.

What It Means:

"We are committed to giving Maikel more time to get out of this. We believe in him," said Klentak. "We have a lot of reason to believe Odubel will come out of it. And the big thing is even when Odubel’s not hitting, he is impacting the game." With the Phillies squarely in a rebuild (their 17-34 record is worst in the MLB this season), they can afford to let the 24-year-old Franco and 25-year-old Herrera work through their struggles.

Franco owns a disappointing .216/.273/.352 slash and .270 wOBA through 194 plate appearances (47 games) this season, though he's added six home runs and 28 RBI's. Herrera is batting .218/.262/.326 with a .251 wOBA across 206 plate appearances (50 games) while adding four steals. The Phillies are at the very bottom of numberFire's MLB Team Power Rankings.
