Blister forces early exit for Mets' Zack Wheeler on Saturday
New York Mets starting pitcher Zack Wheeler left Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a blister.
Wheeler was at 94 pitches when he exited so his night was winding down anyway. The severity of his blister will determine Wheeler's availability going forward. Despite the blister, he would have been in line for the win if not for a blown save by closer Addison Reed.
Wheeler turned in a quality start, going 6 innings pitched and allowing 7 hits, 2 walks, and 3 runs, while striking out 5. His season line improved to a 3.83 ERA, 21.5 percent strikeout rate, and 10.5 percent walk rate after this outing.
