Mets targeting a May 23 return for Yoenis Cespedes (hamstring)

New York Mets assistant general manager John Ricco said outfielder Yoenis Cespedes (hamstring) could return to the team on May 23 for the start of a three-game series against the San Diego Padres, per Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record.

What It Means:

Cespedes has been sidelined since April 27 with a left hamstring strain but is scheduled to start a five-day running program on Wednesday. The Mets have a day off on Monday, making a return next Tuesday a strong possibility if all goes well. Cespedes has been taking at-bats in extended spring training since May 12 as part of his rehabilitation.

Cespedes was on a tear to start the season, batting .270/.373/.619 with a .412 wOBA in 75 plate appearances. He has 6 home runs, 10 RBI's, and 12 runs scored in 18 games played.
