Royals' Jason Vargas blanks the Rays on Thursday

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jason Vargas tossed seven shutout innings on Thursday in a 6-0 defeat of the Tampa Bay Rays.

What It Means:

Vargas allowed just three hits and one walk while fanning four in a very efficient outing on Thursday. He needed just 96 pitches to make it through seven innings for his fifth win of the year. Vargas is off to an excellent start for the Royals but beware as he has allowed just one home run this season, an anomaly for a flyball pitcher who barely touches 90 mph on the gun.

Vargas owns a 1.01 ERA in 44 2/3 innings but is bound for some regression as he holds a 3.71 xFIP and a .264 BABIP in seven starts.
