Clay Buchholz

Phillies' Clay Buchholz (shoulder) scheduled for surgery Tuesday

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Clay Buchholz will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair the partial tear of his flexor pronator mass, reports Jared Carrabis of Barstool Sports.

What It Means:

Buchholz will be able to avoid Tommy John surgery, but he's still looking at anywhere from 4-6 months on the shelf. It's possible that the 32-year-old right-hander doesn't take the mound again this season.

Buchholz's Phillies career has gotten off to a rough start, to say the least, as he owns a 12.27 ERA with a 2.59 WHIP and five strikeouts in just 7 1/3 innings pitched this season.
