Brett Gardner

Yankees' Brett Gardner forced to leave early Wednesday afternoon

New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner was removed from Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays after colliding with Rickie Weeks at first base.

What It Means:

Gardner hit the ground hard and remained there for a couple of minutes after taking a shoulder to his neck and upper chest. He and Weeks both left the game. Ronald Torreyes came in as a pinch-runner for the Yankees.

Gardner is slashing .258/.343/.323 with a pair of doubles, six runs scored and five stolen bases across 35 plate appearances to start the season. That's paired with four walks and eight strikeouts.
