Orioles to send Pedro Alvarez to Triple-A
Baltimore Orioles first/third baseman Pedro Alvarez did not make the Opening Day roster and will start the season at Triple-A.
Alvarez had a relatively good showing in spring training, batting .310 with two home runs in 31 plate appearances. It wasn't enough, though, as the 30-year-old veteran will keep fresh in the minors until the Orioles need another bat. Expect him to see a reasonable amount of playing time in Baltimore, but just not at first.
Prior to the news, numberFire's models projected Alvarez for a .250 batting average, 18 home runs, 45 RBI's and 40 runs scored in 323 plate appearances this season.
