Josh Donaldson (calf) close to making spring debut for Blue Jays

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson (calf) is expected to take live at-bats as a designated hitter within the next few days.

What It Means:

Those at-bats will take place either in minor league games or Grapefruit Leagues games, per manager John Gibbons. It will be the first live action of the spring for Donaldson, who is easing his way back into things after straining his right calf last month. He's expected to be at 100 percent by Opening Day.

Across 700 plate appearances in 2016, Donaldson cranked 37 home runs and 99 RBI's while slashing .284/.404/.549 with a 15.6 percent walk rate and 17.0 percent strikeout rate.
