Dodgers inquired about Tigers' Justin Verlander this offseason
The Los Angeles Dodgers "asked" about Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander this offseason, but they ultimately thought his price tag was too high, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.
Verlander has a no-trade clause in his contract, but the 34-year-old right-hander owns a home in Beverly Hills with his wife-to-be, so the belief is he would have waived it to join the Dodgers. It doesn't sound like talks ever progressed, but the interest is notable, and may be revisited at a later date.
Verlander recorded a 3.04 ERA, 1.00 WHIP (second-best of his career) and a career-best 28.1 strikeout percentage across 227 2/3 innings last season. He went 16-9 and came in second for the AL Cy Young.
