Mets name Noah Syndergaard their Opening Day starting pitcher

New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard was named the team's Opening Day starter by manager Terry Collins on Thursday.

What It Means:

Collins said naming Thor the ace of his rotation was the "easiest decision I've made in a while." Syndergaard has come into spring training with 17 pounds of extra muscle as he looks to increase his endurance and durability during the long season. He battled elbow problems in 2016, limiting him to 183.2 innings pitched and 30 starts.

When Syndergaard is on the mound, he has pitched like an ace, evidenced by a 2.60 ERA, 2.29 FIP, 1.15 WHIP and 29.3 strikeout percentage last season.
