Cubs sign Jon Jay to one-year deal
The Chicago Cubs have signed outfielder Jon Jay to a one-year, $8 million contract.
Jay had a nice bounce back season in San Diego before getting hurt last season. However, the Cubs seem to be hedging at a potential loss of Dexter Fowler in free agency with this signing. Jay should provide some nice defense and hitting in centerfield and will likely platoon with Albert Almora Jr. if the Cubs lose out on Fowler.
Over 373 plate appearances last year, Jay posted a .319 wOBA with 49 runs scored and 26 runs batted in. His .371 BABIP was easily a career high in 2016.
