Yoenis Cespedes

Yankees not prioritizing Yoenis Cespedes this winter

Free agent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is not part of the New York Yankees’ winter spending plans, reports Christian Reid of the New York Daily News.

What It Means:

There is ongoing communication between the two sides, according to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, but Cespedes doesn't appear to be at the top of their priority list. Per Reid, the Yankees are focusing on bringing back Aroldis Chapman, as well as signing a designated hitter and a starting pitcher. That doesn't rule out a pursuit of Cespedes, however. He's expected to land a five-year deal worth more than $100 million.

In his age-30 season, Cespedes slashed .280/.354/.530 with a career-high .884 OPS. He added 31 home runs and 86 RBI's in 543 plate appearances.
