Giants, Tigers discussing J.D. Martinez trade
Detroit Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez has been the subject of recent trade talks with the San Francisco Giants, reports Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
What It Means:
The Giants reportedly have their eyes on free agent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, but Martinez makes for a compelling alternative. The 29-year-old outfielder is only under team control for one more season and the belief is that the Tigers would rather ship him out of town than work out an extension.
Martinez slashed .307/.373/.535 with a .908 OPS across 517 plate appearances last season. He turned in 22 taters and 68 RBI's with a 2.18 nERD.
