Cincinnati claims Arismendy Alcantara from Athletics
The Cincinnati Reds claimed infielder/outfielder Arismendy Alcantara off waivers from the Oakland Athletics.
What It Means:
Alcantara will turn 25 later this month and could compete for a spot on the Reds' Opening Day roster. The former Cubs prospect made just 19 major league appearances at the plate for Oakland this season.
Alcantara spent the majority of his 2016 campaign in the minors, batting .278/.325/.467 with 12 jacks and 32 stolen bases in 460 plate appearances between Low-A and Triple-A. He played all over the diamond defensively.
