Gregory Polanco undergoes procedure for knee, shoulder Monday

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco received platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections in his left knee and left shoulder on Monday, reports Matt Gajtka of DKPittsburghSports.com.

What It Means:

This is the same knee he received a PRP injection for last offseason, and combined with the shoulder ailment, likely contributed to his regression across the second half of the year. Polanco still managed to set new career-highs with 22 home runs, 86 RBI's and a .786 OPS, meaning an even stronger 2017 campaign is in the cards if he can put these issues behind him.

Despite the shoulder slowing him down in the second half (.220/.267/.414 slash), the 24-year-old Polanco turned in a career year from the dish during his third year in the majors, slashing .258/.323/.463 with a .331 wOBA and .205 ISO through 587 plate appearances.
