Nationals expect to have Daniel Murphy (glute) for Game 1 Friday

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said Tuesday that Washington Nationals infielder Daniel Murphy (glute) is expected to be ready for Game 1 of the National League Divisional Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, general manager Mike Rizzo said Tuesday.

What It Means:

Murphy made an appearance as a pinch-hitter in the Nationals' season finale on Sunday in an attempt to win the batting title (he flew out, finishing second to DJ LeMahieu's .348 average), but he hasn't started since September 17 due to a strained left glute. Rizzo and the Nationals are hopeful the time off won't contribute to rust at the plate for Murphy.

The 31-year-old Murphy is enjoying career-highs across the board with a .347/.390/.595 slash, .408 wOBA and .249 ISO in 582 plate appearances. His 25 home runs and 104 RBI's are also the most he's put up in a season.
