Mariners' Seth Smith leaves early after being hit in foot
Seattle Mariners outfielder Seth Smith was lifted for a pinch-runner after being hit in the foot during Wednesday's game against the Houston Astros.
Smith took a pitch to his foot in the top of the sixth frame. Ben Gamel replaced him on the bases. Expect an update on Smith's injury by the end of the day Wednesday. He had a two-run single in the top of the second and was credited with a run.
Smith is slashing .254/.347/.424 through 429 plate appearances on the year, and owns a .336 wOBA and .170 ISO that both fall short of his career-averages.
