Blue Jays' Joaquin Benoit diagnosed with a tear in calf
Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Joaquin Benoit has been diagnosed with a torn muscle in his calf.
If the Blue Jays make a deep postseason run, Benoit could return at some point in October, but he's done for the regular season. The injury occurred during a benches-clearing brawl between Toronto and the New York Yankees on Monday.
It's a disappointing end to what had been a fantastic campaign for Toronto, as Benoit twirled a 0.38 ERA across 23 2/3 innings with the Blue Jays after being acquired from the San Diego Padres ahead of the August 1 trade deadline.
