Joe Ross (shoulder) could be on track for the weekend for Nationals
Washington Nationals pitcher Joe Ross (shoulder) is on track to join the Nationals' rotation this week.
Ross threw three innings last Monday in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Syracuse, and then he tossed about 80 pitches at Nationals Park in a simulated game later that week. Manager Dusty Baker said Ross might have to deal with stamina issues initially, but he's shaping up to be a sneaky streamer for the last two weeks of the regular season. He hasn't made a big league start since July 2, and his first start since will likely be this weekend versus the Atlanta Braves.
Ross has posted a 3.49 ERA and a 3.93 xFIP in 95 1/3 innings pitched this season, and his 19.8 strikeout percentage is below the league average (21.0 percent). We currently project him to record a 4.13 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP over the rest of the year (11 innings).
