Billy Butler

Athletics release Billy Butler

The Oakland Athletics released designated hitter Billy Butler on Sunday.

What It Means:

Butler got a three-year, $30 million deal in the offseason before the 2015 campaign. Through two years in Oakland, he has only 19 homers since getting that contract, with only four coming this season. The A's are still on the hook for what's remaining on his deal this season, as well as the $10 million remaining for next season.

The veteran is slashing .276/.331/.403 with a .317 wOBA over 242 plate appearances this season. His power is way down with only four homers and a .127 isolated power, to go along with only 31 RBI's.
