Royals moving Chris Young to bullpen, Guthrie to remain in rotation
Ned Yost announced pitcher Chris Young will be moved to the bullpen. Jeremy Guthrie will remain in the Royals rotation.
Ned Yost may have flipped a coin to make this decision, because both Guthrie and Young been down right terrible this year.
Young has an OK 3.25 ERA, but his 5.07 xFIP says he has been performing a lot worse than his ERA. Guthrie is giving him a run for his money with a 5.65 ERA and a 5.03 xFIP. Our projections have Young producing a 4.21 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 15.2% strikeout rate, and 8.2% walk rate for the remainder of the season while Guthrie produces 4.68 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 13% strikeout rate, and 6.7% walk rate.
