Cardinals' Michael Wacha (shoulder) throws off mound
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Michael Wacha (shoulder) resumed throwing from a mound Wednesday.
After the session, Wacha said he "felt really happy with the way it went." At this point in the season it's not an option to bring him back as a starter, but it's possible that the Cardinals use him as a reliever. Wacha has been sidelined early August because of a recurrence of his scapula issue. He owns a 4.45 ERA in 131 1/3 innings this season.
Wacha's xFIP is slightly better at 4.05, but his 19.1 strikeout percentage is below league average (21.0 percent). We currently project him to record a 4.47 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP over the remaining course of the season (16 innings).
