Angels place Matt Shoemaker (head) on disabled list
The Los Angeles Angels placed pitcher Matt Shoemaker on the 15-day disabled list with a small skull fracture.
Shoemaker took a line drive off of his head during Sunday's start and had to be rushed to the hospital. The line drive caused a small skull fracture and hematoma, and Shoemaker required emergency late-night surgery in order to stop additional bleeding. The 29 year-old is likely done pitching this season.
Shoemaker posted a 3.88 ERA and 3.87 SIERA on the year, along with a 21.4 percent strikeout rate through 160 innings pitched. Those numbers are all worse than his career averages through four seasons in the majors, but better than this season's league averages.
