Tyson Ross (shoulder, ankle) throws live batting practice for Padres

San Diego Padres pitcher Tyson Ross (shoulder, ankle) threw 30 pitches of live batting practice on Tuesday.

What It Means:

It's a step in the right direction for Ross, who hasn't pitched since April 4 -- the first game of the season -- due to a shoulder issue. His progress was stalled after tweaking his ankle while working out on July 6, although Ross has already recovered from that injury. He now needs to build up his arm strength. It's possible that Ross could be ready for some starts next month.

2016 has been a lost season for Ross. He was coming off an impressive 2015 campaign, posting a 3.15 xFIP and a 25.78 strikeout percentage (11th-best) in 196 innings pitched.
