Mets' Zack Wheeler (elbow) to be examined by Dr. Andrews
New York Mets starting pitcher Zack Wheeler will be examined by Dr. James Andrews next week after feeling renewed discomfort in his surgically-repaired right elbow.
This is not a good sign, as Wheeler has suffered a handful of setbacks already in his recovery from Tommy John Surgery. His last rehab start came on August 6, and he hasn't thrown since. A visit with Dr. Andrews should provide some clarity, but it looks like another season will go by without Wheeler toeing the rubber.
Wheeler showed lots of promise when he last pitched in 2014, posting a 3.49 xFIP and a 23.55 strikeout percentage across 185 1/3 innings.
