Wade Davis

Wade Davis (elbow) placed on Royals' disabled list

Kansas City Royals relief pitcher Wade Davis was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 27, with a right flexor strain.

What It Means:

This will be Davis' second arm-related stint on the disabled list this month. While nothing is certain as of now, flexor strains tend to contribute to ulnar collateral ligament issues, so hopefully the 30-year-old reliever can avoid that fate. Kelvin Herrera will continue closing for Kansas City, while Davis will likely be shelved for an extended period of time. This likely won't help the Royals in their pursuit of a trade partner for Davis.

Among the 160 relievers with at least 30 major league innings pitched this season, Davis ranks 12th with a 1.60 ERA (33 2/3 innings). However, he owns a 23.70 strikeout percentage this season, a significant dip from the 35.28 percent rate that he averaged the previous two campaigns.
