Yankees to acquire Tyler Clippard from Diamondbacks

The New York Yankees have acquired Tyler Clippard from the Arizona Diamondbacks, reports Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

What It Means:

After losing a pair of premiere relievers in Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller, the Yankees wanted to bring in a veteran to fill the void at the back of their bullpen. Clippard obviously represents a downgrade from those two, but he will be working in a setup role ahead of newly promoted closer Dellin Betances for New York. The Diamondbacks will receive Vicente Campos in the deal, per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com.

Clippard has conceded seven runs in his last three outings, contributing towards a 4.30 ERA, his highest since 2009. However, the 31-year-old right-hander owns an impressive 29.68 strikeout percentage that represents a career-high.
