Luke Hochevar likely to have season-ending surgery for Royals
Kansas City Royals pitcher Luke Hochevar is expected to undergo season-ending surgery to repair thoracic outlet syndrome.
Hochevar will get a second opinion before going through with the surgery, but ultimately, he's expected to go under the knife. Next season, Kansas City has a $7 million club option on Hochevar, but they are likely to exercise a $500,000 buyout instead. Hochevar will finish this season with a 3.86 ERA in 37 1/3 innings in 2016.
Hochevar posted a 4.05 xFIP and a 26.49 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.01 percent) this season, while limiting hitters to a .223 batting average.
