The Marlins managed to kill two birds with one stone in the deal, accomplishing their goal of acquiring two starters prior to the trade deadline. Unlike Cashner, who is an impending free agent this offseason, Rea is under team control through 2021 at a ripe age of 26-years-young. If all goes according to plan for Miami, he should develop into a solid starter at the back end of the rotation.

In his second season in the majors, Rea is twirling a 4.98 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP across 99 1/3 innings of work. He is 5-5 through 18 starts on the year, while his 17.16 strikeout percentage has fallen from last year's 19.55 percent rate.
