Braves ship Lucas Harrell and Dario Alvarez to Rangers

Atlanta Braves pitchers Lucas Harrell and Dario Alvarez have been traded to the Texas Rangers for infield prospect Travis Demeritte, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports.

What It Means:

Demeritte, who turns 22 in September, is the 20th overall prospect in the Rangers' farm system, according to MLB.com. Both Harrell and Alvarez figure to slot into middle relief roles with the Rangers, assuming the trade is finalized.

Harrell holds a 3.38 ERA and 4.98 SIERA, with a 16.94 percent strikeout rate and 9.68 percent walk rate over 29 1/3 innings of relief work for the Braves. Alvarez pitched an even 3.00 ERA (1.53 SIERA) with a ridiculous 45.90 percent strikeout rate and 8.20 percent walk rate across 15 frames. Demeritte is slashing .272/.352/.583 with a .404 wOBA in High-A this year, but he also owns an ugly 33.07 percent strikeout rate in 378 plate appearances.
