Tom Koehler twirls eight innings as Marlins top Phillies

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Tom Koehler went eight strong innings Thursday, holding the Philadelphia Phillies to three runs in a 9-3 victory.

What It Means:

Only one of the runs were earned and through eight innings Koehler allowed only two hits and struck out five. He gave up a two-run homer to Ryan Howard after an error forced the fourth inning to be extended, but his line was still very good for the Fish. He'll have another start against Philadelphia next Tuesday.

Koehler has a 4.42 ERA and 1.51 WHIP across 108 innings this season. He owns a 17.57 strikeout rate and our models project him to post a 4.38 ERA across 74 innings remaining this year.
