Justin Morneau (elbow) struggling in rehab stint for White Sox

Chicago White Sox first baseman Justin Morneau (elbow) is 3-for-20 (.150) with a triple and an RBI through his first seven minor league rehab games.

What It Means:

The White Sox signed Morneau to a one-year deal last month, and he is working on returning from off-season surgery on his flexor tendon. These rehab games basically equate to spring training for Morneau. Exactly when he'll be able to join the White Sox is unknown, but once activated, the 35-year-old should see lots of time as Chicago's designated hitter. They could use help at the position, which is currently hitting a combined .309 wOBA on the year.

Morneau had just 182 plate appearances last season with the Colorado Rockies, but was productive at the plate, slashing .310/.363/.458 with a .353 wOBA, which is in line with his career .355 wOBA. Our models currently project Morneau to hit .269/.332/.385 with three home runs and a .310 wOBA in 203 plate appearances this season.
