Mariners moving Nate Karns to bullpen

Seattle Mariners pitcher Nate Karns has been moved to the bullpen, manager Scott Servais announced on Tuesday.

What It Means:

Karns has solid stuff from the mound, but he's currently walking 4.22 batters every nine frames across 81 innings of work this season, and that's not going to cut it. It remains to be seen whether this is a short-term solution for Karns, or if he will settle in as a fixture in Seattle's bullpen.

Karns has struggled in the Mariner's rotation this season, compiling a 4.56 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with a 6-2 record across 15 starts. In June, he has one win in five starts while recording a 7.33 ERA and 1.84 WHIP across 23 1/3 innings.
