Whit Merrifield on Blue Jays bench in Wild Card opener
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman/left fielder Whit Merrifield is not in the lineup for Game 1 of the Wild Card Series against right-hander Pablo Lopez and the Minnesota Twins.
Merrifield's playing time took a dip over the last month of the season and he will begin the playoffs on the bench. Cavan Biggio will start on second base in Game 1 and Daulton Varsho will cover left field.
numberFire’s models project Biggio ($2,500) for 7.8 and Varsho ($2,800) for 9.5 FanDuel points on Tuesday. Per our MLB Heat Map, the Blue Jays' implied total is 3.63 and the game total is 7.5. Lopez had an elite regular season and finished with a 2.98 xERA (top 94th percentile), 29.2% strikeout rate (top 87th), and 6.0% walk rate (top 83rd).
