Nationals' prospect Trea Turner starting in center field in Triple-A on Monday

Washington Nationals infield prospect Trea Turner is starting in center field Monday with Triple-A Syracuse, reports Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post.

What It Means:

The Nationals are pleased with their current shortstop, Danny Espinosa, so it looks like they are exploring a different way for Turner to get to the majors. Turner, normally a shortstop, has never played in the outfield as a professional, but his athleticism should be enough to make him a quick study. Center fielders for the Nats this season (primarily Ben Revere and Michael A. Taylor) have combined to post a major-league worst .587 OPS, so it's worth paying attention to this situation.

Turner, who went 3-for-3 with a walk in his only start in the big leagues this season, is hitting well in Triple-A. His slash is .297/.370/.446 with four home runs, 22 stolen bases, and a .368 wOBA in 312 plate appearances. He also has 47 runs scored, 31 RBI's, and has only been caught stealing twice.
