Angels' Andrelton Simmons (thumb) ready for games

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment Monday with High-A Inland Empire.

What It Means:

And he could be ready for activation from the disabled list by the weekend if everything goes according to plan. Simmons has been out since May 8 because of a UCL tear in his left thumb. He was initially given a 6-8 week timetable, so this has been a pretty remarkable recovery for the 26-year-old shortstop. Simmons hit .219/.246/.281 in 118 plate appearances before the injury.

Simmons' .232 wOBA ranks 11th worst among hitters with at least 110 plate appearances this season and he posted just a .061 Isolated Power. Our models currently project Simmons to hit .250/.293/.327 with two home runs, three steals, and a .267 wOBA over the remaining course of the season.
