Reds drop Jason Vosler from roster Monday

The Cincinnati Reds designated infielder Jason Vosler for assignment on Monday.

What It Means:

The Reds called up outfielder Henry Ramos in a corresponding roster move. Vosler cooled off after a hot start to the season and is now sitting on a .161/.200/.371 slash line with a 38.5% whiff rate across 65 plate appearances. Ramos will start at designated hitter and bat seventh in Monday's series opener versus right-hander Nathan Eovaldi and the Texas Rangers. Spencer Steer will move to third base in place of Vosler.

Eovaldi has a 5.40 ERA through 21 2/3 innings this season, but his 3.06 xFIP and 3.38 SIERA suggest potential positive regression against the Reds. He has a 25.8% strikeout rate and Eovladi's 4.3% walk rate is second-best among Monday's projected starters. Per numberFire's MLB Heat Map, the Reds' implied total is 4.17 and the game total is 8.5.
