Giancarlo Stanton starting for Marlins Thursday after all

Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton will be in the starting lineup Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

What It Means:

He's starting in right field and hitting cleanup. Cole Gillespie was originally slated to start in his place but manager Don Mattingly must have changed his mind after seeing Stanton take batting practice. Contact has been an issue for Stanton this year (63 strikeouts in 157 at-bats), but he's still a threat to hit one 450 feet every time he steps to the plate.

Stanton's power has been on display this season -- he has 12 home runs and a .261 ISO -- but he is slashing just .210/.324/.471 with a .340 wOBA in 186 plate appearances. Our models currently project him to hit .249/.347/.512 with 24 home runs and a .363 wOBA over the remaining course of the season.
