Reliever Matt Albers sparks White Sox with arm, bat
Chicago White Sox pitcher Matt Albers scored the go-ahead run and earned the win as the White Sox defeated the New York Mets, 2-1, in 13 innings Wednesday afternoon at Citi Field.
Albers slugged a leadoff double to left-center in the top of the 13th inning, made it to third base on a wild pitch and hustled home on a Jose Abreu sacrifice fly to put the visiting White Sox up 2-1. That was after he had thrown a scoreless frame in the bottom of the 12th, and he did the same in the bottom of the 13th.
Albers has now worked 23 2/3 innings in 25 appearances this season, earning a 3.80 ERA and whiffing 5.70 hitters per nine frames.
