Royals place Mike Moustakas on 15-day disabled list

The Kansas City Royals placed third baseman Mike Moustakas on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised right knee.

What It Means:

It's a tough break for Moustakas, who was activated from the disabled list Saturday after missing two weeks with a fractured thumb. Moustakas injured his knee in a collision with Alex Gordon in only his second game back and now faces another extended absence. The 27-year-old has hit only .240 this year with seven homers in 27 games. The Royals called up Brett Eibner from Triple-A Omaha in the corresponding roster move.

Moustakas owns a triple slash of .240/.301/.500 with a .343 wOBA in 113 plate appearances this season. His numbers are partially deflated because of a low .214 BABIP.
