Athletics' Chris Bassitt (elbow) to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery
Oakland Athletics pitcher Chris Bassitt (elbow) will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on Friday.
We saw the writing on the wall when Bassitt was diagnosed with a torn UCL in his throwing elbow last week. Going by the usual Tommy John timeline, Bassitt won't be back until halfway through next season. Top prospect Sean Manaea has taken Bassitt's place in the starting rotation and figures to be up with the big club for good.
Bassitt had a 4.81 xFIP in 28 innings pitched this season, and his 17.3 strikeout percentage was in line with his career average.
