Phillies release Didi Gregorius on Thursday

The Philadelphia Phillies have released shortstop Didi Gregorius on Thursday.

What It Means:

In order to make roster space for Jean Segura, Gregorius was finally released after three seasons with Philadelphia. Expect Bryson Stott to see a bump in playing time at the shortstop position going forward while Gregorius seeks to play for his fifth major league club.

Per Baseball Savant on 180 batted balls this season, Gregorius has accounted for a 2.8% barrel rate and a .275 expected weighted on-base average.
